"I am an artist. I am a woman. I am a wife. I am a mother. (Random order)." from: Mierle Ukeles: Manifesto for Maintenance Art 1969

I find myself on leave from my graduate degree to wait for the small being that is                presently squirming around inside me to appear on the outside and graduate                me to the title of mother. I am referring to this year as my residency in                motherhood, inspired by Lenka Clayton's project that gave me the name and                opened my mind further to the fact that artist and mother do not need to be                separate ventures.

I am unsure of what it will look like and where it will all end up filed, but I                will begin in the same way parenthood is being entered upon: with naivet√©,                 fear, hope, and moments of excitement and wonder in between....
